Obituary for Shirley June Muzny

Born June 18, 1935 in Guthrie, OK, Shirley June Muzny, was the youngest daughter of 9 to the late William and Ethel Pearl Holeman.

Soon after meeting at Spring Lake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City, Shirley married the love of her life, Ralph Muzny on March 8, 1952. They shared 65 years of marriage and have truly lived a full life together, building a legacy of love that is unlike any other. They raised their family and started their furniture business, Arkansas Furniture, in Hot Springs, AR, where Shirley worked the books and was a meticulous record keeper. The memories they made over the years going from rags to riches, were the source of wonderful stories they loved sharing with their family and friends.

Shirley was greatly involved in her community, as an active member of Welcome Women and the Republican Party. She loved history and spent hours learning about her state and country. Her interest in collecting and making dolls was fitting, as she was named after the famous Shirley Temple. A day spent with Shirley might have included a shopping trip to Dillards, searching for great finds at antique shops or playing slots at the casino, but would have always ended with a chocolate milkshake, made only with vanilla ice cream.

Ralph and Shirley took many trips in their RV, sharing a love for the outdoors with their family and exploring the country together. Whether at the lake on the party barge, watching birds on her patio, or cooking breakfast over a campfire, Shirley’s love of na-ture was a large part of her life that she passed onto her family. When at home, Ralph and Shirley could often be found curled up with her 2 cats, Rufus and Tommy, watching the latest episode of The Curse of Oak Island.

Above all else, Shirley loved and was proud of her “beautiful family.” By the age of 22 she was a devoted mother of 5, as well as a foster mother to numerous babies who she lovingly welcomed into her already full home. Shirley was extremely nurturing and she took great pride and joy in raising children, never missing an opportunity to keep her family safe and sound. She always doted on her children as well as her 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Those who knew her best would describe her as strong, encouraging, and hard-working, but what Shirley will be remembered for more than anything is the beautiful family she created with her very best friend.
