Obituary for Margaret Mason

Margaret Mason, 91, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. She was born November 8, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Homer and Helen Stricklin.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O.V. (Jim) Mason; daughter, M. Katherine Patten; and brother, Gordon Stricklin.

Margaret leaves behind a host of family and friends, including her brother, Robert Stricklin and his wife Carole; daughter, Phyllis Zubro and husband John; son-in-law, V.J. Patten; grandchildren, Pamela, John Paul, Clarence, Adam, Leslie; great-grandchildren, Holly, Christopher, Johnathan, Dylan, Samantha, Elizabeth, Carissa, C.J., Erin, Isabella, Mia, Catalina, Molina; and one great-great-grandchild, Peter. Margaret also leaves behind numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces, as well as her beloved church family at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Margaret lived in California for many years with her husband Jim and daughters, where she raised her family and worked as a bookkeeper in the retail industry. They retired in 1976 and moved to Arkansas, where she became involved in several service organizations, among them, Eastern Star and Rainbow State. They moved to their last home in Hot Springs in 1988. They continued their involvement with Shriners, and Margaret soon began competing in the Arkansas Senior Olympics. After her husband’s passing in 1998 Margaret began attending St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. It was here that she found her calling to service, volunteering on a regular basis in the church office, helping serve the poor at Jackson House and as a member of ECW.

Margaret’s funeral will be 12:00 Noon Saturday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs with Rev. C.B. Baker officiating.

Flowers may be sent to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and any donations in her name may be given to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Building Fund of Hot Springs, 228 Spring Street, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
