Obituary for Frances Marie Nooner Martin

Surrounded by her family, Frances Marie Nooner Martin entered into the presence of God Almighty and her Lord Jesus Christ at 7:29 am on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, after a short battle with leukemia.

She was diagnosed with leukemia (A.L.L.) on November 27, 2018, and began chemotherapy immediately. She, then, was admitted to the hospital where she would spend the last 12 days of her precious life.

Frances was adopted by the late Noah and Gladys Nooner of Hot Springs, AR. They adored and cherished her and her younger sister, Kathy Nooner Brown. As a child, she became a follower of Jesus Christ and was baptized at Park Place Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR. She was an alumnus of Lakeside School where she made many lifelong friends, and enjoyed being a Lakeside Gold Duster.

Upon graduation, she received a scholarship to attend Louisiana Tech University where she pursued her passion of music and sang in the University Chorus. She met the love of her life, Phillip Wayne Martin of Winnsboro, LA. While courting, she would accompany Phillip on the farm, riding the tractor while he tended his cows. They married on July 12, 1980, at Phillip’s family church, Mineral Springs, in Dubach, LA. She was welcomed into the Martin Family and embraced by her in-laws, Leonard and Betty Jean Martin. She became very close to Phillip’s brothers, sister-in-laws, and their children, and she always enjoyed spending time with them. She is loved by them all.

Phillip and Fran resided in Hot Springs, AR, where they happily began their family by having their first baby girl, Melissa Leigh, on April 20, 1981. Then on July 31, 1982, their second baby girl arrived, Lyndsey Marie. Their third baby girl, Julie Nicole, was born on October 12, 1984. Their last baby girl, Katelynn Beth, came on July 16, 1988. Having a big family was always a dream of Fran’s, and God blessed her with a loving husband and four beautiful daughters.

As a young family, they moved from Lakeside to Fountain Lake where Phillip tended the land Fran inherited. They raised their four daughters on their cattle and chicken farm. Phillip is also a lieutenant for the Hot Springs Fire Department.

Throughout their life together, they worshipped and served God at Jessieville First Baptist Church, Red Oak Missionary Baptist Church, and Owensville Baptist Church. They are members of Millcreek Baptist Church, where she was serving the Lord Jesus by playing the piano, leading the Children’s Music, directing music during Vacation Bible School, and being the secretary of the A.W.A.N.A. ministry. She was blessed that each of her daughters are followers of Jesus Christ.

She served her family by caring for their daughters and working in their chicken house. Once her daughters were in school, she became very involved in the Fountain Lake community, where she worked at the local movie store, Movie Magic, and served at Fountain Lake School in the PTO and the Athletic Booster Club.

She was blessed to see each of their daughters marry the loves of their lives and begin their families. Fran and Phillip became Rie-Rie and Rooster in 2008 with the arrival of their first her grandson, Peyton Thomas Harwood. She was given the special opportunity of providing day care for him. She then retired from her bookkeeping job in 2012 to become a full-time Rie-Rie taking care of their first granddaughter, Jalynn Marie Harwood and grandsons, Hayes Martin Robison, and Noah Douglas Herrington. In 2016, they were blessed again to care for second granddaughter, Laney Beth Dwyer. Upon their daughter’s marriage in 2017, they were blessed with their grandson, Baylor Ray Dyson. Earlier this year, they received another granddaughter, Ever Nicole Dyson. Nothing gave her as much joy as caring for her grandbabies. She was so blessed to have such an important role in their lives.

Fran was a very creative and genuine person. She always made people feel cared for and loved. She had the most forgiving spirit and always enjoyed being with her family and friends. Her passion was music. She loved to sing and play the piano. She had a beautiful voice. She had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She loved being silly and animated. She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She had many talents like decorating, sewing, and organizing. She was very intelligent and artistic. She loved going to yard sales and flea markets with her girlfriends. She was always involved and so supportive of her husband and daughters, and served them in all things. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and did her best to be of service to her family, her church, her community, and her friends.

Fran is preceded in death by her loving parents, Noah and Gladys Nooner; her niece, Sara June Martin; her brother-in-law, Tim Veazey; her great-nephew, James Wyatt Martin; her father-in-law, Leonard Martin; her sister-in-law, Sandra Martin; and her biological father, Lee Edward Koon.

This obituary is written at length for our mother, Fran Martin. The four of us, her daughters, love her very much and want to let our community know the legacy she leaves behind. Those of you who know our dad know that he’s a man of few words and every word of this detailed obituary is costing him money. So, there’s more…

Our family will be forever grateful for the wonderful and tender care that was taken with our mother and wife by the doctors, nurses, and staff at CHI St. Vincent's hospital in Hot Springs, the medflight team that transported her to UAMS, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at UAMS.

Our family has been overwhelmed by how much people love her. We want to thank everyone for the prayers, cards, texts, Facebook messages, phone calls, and visits to both the hospital and our home. We would like to thank our employers for allowing this time with our family. We would like to thank Gayle Harwood and Jennifer Harwood for keeping our parents’ home hospitable for our loving guests. We are overwhelmed, and thank you all for honoring Fran Martin.

She is now in the presence of Jesus and in the arms of her parents, both of whom she has missed for so long. Because of our salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord, we know that we will see her again.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

A celebration of Frances’ life will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Millcreek Baptist Church.
