Obituary for Jimmie Lois Caton Jones

Jimmie Lois Caton Jones went to be with our Lord and her husband of 67 years, Gilford Merle Jones on June 22, 2018. Born the youngest of five children to the late James Addison Caton and Myrtle Birtie Harvey Caton on July 2, 1927 in Lonoke, AR. She is predeceased by her siblings, Luey Caton (Bevie), Chester Caton, Emmie Hurst (Davis), and Birtie Lee York (Edward) and grandson Caton Jones.

As a child she attended Gardner School and later Lakeside High School where she excelled in basketball. She helped the team win many trophies and was scouted by the Red Heads Women’s Basketball Team. In 1965 she was instrumental in establishing Lakeside Booster Club.

Jimmie was employed at Lake Catherine Footwear for many years. She was listed in the Arkansas Book of Who’s Who for being the first woman to hold a man’s position in manufacturing as Lasting Department Foreman.

Her hobbies included fishing, bowling, quilting, knitting, and genealogy. She loved finding relatives. Jimmie became quite the genealogist and was instrumental in helping to maintain the Melting Pot Genealogical Society.

Over the years she was a member of the Central Lanes Bowling League, VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Morning Star Cemetery Association, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her accomplishments were the beautification of the Confederate Memorial Park and being bestowed with the title of Honorary Division President UDC for life. She also compiled publications of family lineage, Morning Star Cemetery, and Garland County Obituary books which are now in the LDS Library in Utah.

She leaves behind her loving family. Stephen Jones of Norman, AR; Michael Jones (Jenifer), Martha Koon (Stephen) and David Jones of Hot Springs, 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as a huge extended family.

The family wishes to thank, Jimmie’s caregivers over the years and the wonderful staff of Arkansas Hospice during her final days.

Visitation will be 9:00 AM, Memorial Service 10:00 AM on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Morning Star Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Koon, Matthew Jones, Christopher M. Jones, Christian Knapp, Colt Beard, and Dallas Fetterhoff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richie Hurst, Alan Moody, Derek Doucet, and Christopher W. Jones.
