Obituary for Margaret Morgan Harper

Margaret M. Harper, 96, died on April 19, 2018, in the Hospice Inpatient Center at St. Vincent Hospital, Hot Springs.

She was born on August 22, 1921, in Haynesville, Louisiana, and raised in nearby Homer. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston, studying both art and English. Painting, needlepoint, and reading were three of her passions, and she enjoyed all of them for many years. She also taught school as a substitute teacher and loved helping others learn.

She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Clell Daniel Miller; and the love of her life, her husband, the late Cordie Harper.

She is survived by her younger sister, Marian M. Brockett, Broomfield, CO; her two loving children, Marilyn K. Hagan, Dallas, TX; Brian J. Kistenmacher, Georgetown, TX; two grandchildren, Abigail Harris and Matthew Hagan; and three great grandchildren, all living in the Dallas area.

Margaret’s family wishes to thank her longtime friend and adviser, Cindy Harper, for decades of loyal service; her many caregivers over the years, but especially Rhonda Smith, her most devoted one. The family is also grateful for the kindness, compassion, and professionalism of the doctors, nurses, and staff of Arkansas Hospice, Hot Springs, and Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs Inpatient Center, St. Vincent Hospital, who provided much comfort to Margaret in her final days. If any memorial contributions are to be made, please make them to Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs, 628 Malvern Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
