Obituary for Lonnie Ray Powell

Lonnie Ray Powell, also lovingly known as “Buddy” by his grandchildren, 71, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away March 4, 2018. He was born August 10, 1946, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to Elza and Dorothy (Wilson) Powell.

Lonnie loved and cherished spending time and spoiling his grandchildren, traveling, watching old western movies, telling jokes, and the horse races at Oaklawn Park.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Survivors left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 28 years, Mary Powell; step-sons, Jeff Powell (Kathleen) of Bryant, Kevin Powell (Angel), Scott Powell (Kari) both of Hot Springs; and sister, Jo Anne O’Neal (Melvin) of Georgia; brother-in-law, Wayne King (Carlena) of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Alyssa, Trent, Alexis, Brandon, Kaitlyn; his four-legged sidekick, “Baby Girl”; and numerous other family members and friends..

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Peak Cemetery with Pastor Teddy Hill officiating.

Pallbearers include Johnny Covey, Joe Tackett, Anthony Ray, Matt Cruze, Chandler Hill, and grandson, Trent Powell.

Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters, Alyssa and Alexis Powell and the staff at CHI St.Vincent Lab on Higdon Ferry, especially Diana and Jackie.
