Obituary for J.L. Weston

J.L. Sanford Weston, 86, of Hot Springs, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 29th, 2018. J.L. was born to Ira Adams Weston and Leona Buck Weston on June 8th, 1931 and grew up in the community of Meyer Creek, Arkansas.

After attending Mt. Ida High School and graduating in 1949, he met the love of his life, Laura Zel Watts, at McBrides Root Beer Stand. They married in 1951 and lived a 66-year love story unlike many will ever experience. J.L. served two years in the United States Army during peace time in Germany; upon his return, he and his bride were baptized at Meyer Creek and began their walk of faith together. When the church at Meyer Creek relocated to Hot Springs, J.L. was involved in the construction and establishment of Mt. Tabor Church in 1957 and faithfully served as a deacon until the last days of his life.

J.L. was a member of the Arkansas Cattlemens Association and enjoyed raising several herd of cattle at his family’s farm over the years. He retired from Ideal Bread Company after 40 dedicated years of service. He loved the Lord, his wife, and his family with all of his heart for all of his days. He passed from this life with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren surrounding him with love, prayer, and his favorite hymnals.

J.L. is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Leona Weston; his sisters Betty Sanders and Joann Abernathy; and his granddaughter Asalyn Nicole Plyler.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Weston; sister, Patsy Smith; children, Jeffrey Weston and Donna Plyler (Mickey); grandchildren, Miranda Plyler, Mikia Kilcrease (Gaylon), Micah Diggs (Jeremy); great-grandchildren, Plyler Oseguera, Shelby Kilcrease, Judah Diggs; and his caregiver, Amber Abernathy.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home with a celebration of J.L.’s life immediately following at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Paul Thompson and Mark Clark of Mt. Tabor Church officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Plyler, Plyler Oseguera, Gaylon Kilcrease, Jeremy Diggs, Steve Abernathy, and Teddy Short.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Tabor Community Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the church as well as Kindred Hospice.
