Obituary for Rodger A Whitford

Rodger A. Whitford lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on January 11, 2018. He fought this fight as he lived his life on a daily basis - with courage, dignity, and grace.

Rodger had a larger than life personality and sarcastic wit, was the life of the party, and had a strong passion for everything golf (which explains how he could have the seven (yes, seven) holes-in-one of which he was so proud). He took total ownership of all the roles he played - loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, North Dakota State University alumnus, and consummate sales professional. He had a no quit mentality, and was the ultimate competitor, compassionate teacher, and coach. He never backed away from a challenge, including the battle that took his life on earth. Rodger was actively involved in coaching, training and avidly watching his children play golf, soccer and basketball during their youth. He was a true patriarch to the Whitford family and a leader in every aspect of the word.
Rodger was born in Jamestown, ND on March 17, 1948 to George and Betty Whitford.

He moved to and lived in Fargo, ND from early childhood. Rodger was part of the first graduating class at Fargo North High School in 1966. He then attended North Dakota State University and graduated in 1970. He was married to Linda Rogne Whitford for 47 years. Rodger lived most of his life in Fargo, ND until he retired from his sales position with Georgia Pacific in 2012. They then moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas (or Paradise, as Rodger liked to call it).

Rodger was preceded in death by his father George Whitford, father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ellen Rogne, and brother-in-law, Tom Richards. Rodger will forever be remembered and loved by his wife, Linda and his children, Tucker Whitford of Little Rock, AR, Ryan (Sara) Whitford of Denver, CO, and Renae (Nate) Sungy of Denver, CO. He will always be treasured by his seven grandchildren, Zoe, Emma, Emerson, Skyler, Reid, Quinn and Ellie of Denver, CO. Also surviving are his mother Betty, his sisters Debra Richards and Jeanna (Sean) Slusarczyk and brother Joe (Maggie) Whitford.

Per Rodger’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service, but rather a celebration of life. We plan to celebrate Rodger in Fargo, ND in the summer of 2018 with details to follow.
