Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Griffith

Robert (Bob) Griffith went home to be with his Lord on the morning of November 10, 2018. He attended church at New Salem Methodist Church. Bob was born in Dierks, Arkansas on October 13, 1939 to the late Hugh Lee Griffith and Josie Glenn Griffith. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Hugh Griffith Jr., Louise Rutlage, & Ruth Gay.

Bob enjoyed his time hunting, camping, and boating on Lake Ouachita. He liked tinkering out in his workshop, where he could fix almost anything, had a wall of hammers and a fine selection of duct tape and tools. He loved to cook but everyone knew to stay away if he brought out his beloved crock-pot.

Most of all, he adored spending time with his grandkids and great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, Papaw, Pappa Giffy, proud patriot, and a United Sates Army Veteran.

Bob was a 1957 graduate of Mountain Pine High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Smith-Griffith, on August 22, 1958. Bob proudly served his country in the United Sates Army from 1960-1963, with overseas duty in Dexheim Germany. After returning home, he worked for General Motors. Then, he served as Chief of Detectives for the Hot Springs Police Department from 1963-1981; he was also a proud graduate of the National FBI Academy class of 1976. He also proudly served as Star City Police Chief for two years. Later, Bob was a long distance truck driver for C. Bean Transports where he was the recipient of the accident-free Million Mile Award. After a short retirement, he worked as a driving instructor for Mid-America Truck Driving School and hauled short loads for SBI Metal Buildings.

Bob is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 60 years, Norma. They had three children: Tim Griffith, Scott Griffith and Shannon, Kristie Griffith-Russell and Chuck, of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Nikki Griffith-Radley and Randy, of Hot Springs, Cody and Brooke Russell, of Eureka Springs, Jake & Haley Griffith, Dylan and Whitney Griffith, and Brayden Branstetter, all of Hot Springs; five beautiful great-grandchildren; Milli and Maddi Radley, Casen Russell, Wesson Griffith, and Harper Griffith and they, even on the darkest days, could make him smile. Survivors also include his sister, Elaine (Gladys) Smith, his sister-in-law, Geneva Griffith, sister & brother-in-law, Shirley & Joe Robertson; lifelong friends, dinner, and travel buddies, Charles and Judy Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.
