Obituary for Horace "Shank" Shankwiler

Horace “Shank” Shankwiler of Hot Springs Village died December 19, 2018. Born July 12, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan to Don and Lucy Shankwiler. He was a decorated B-24 Liberator Pilot in the Eighth Air Force during World War II. He retired to the Village with his first wife, Dorothy who died in 1987. Having enjoyed 45 years together. Remarried in 1988 to Jane Hartman who passed away 2012.

He is survived by one son, Douglas, his wife Cindy and two grandsons, Kevin and Brad, and one great-grandson, Christopher. Also, by two stepsons Stephen Hartman, Greg Hartman and stepdaughter, Ann Stenstrom. Three step-granddaughters, Nichole Miller, Kimberly Hopkins, and Vivian Anderson, and one step-grandson Steven Hartman. He is also survived by his companion, Patricia Ormsbee.

The body will be cremated and laid to rest in the Memorial Gardens of The Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines Church in Hot Springs Village, Ar.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Kirk on 11:00 a.m. Friday Jan. 4, 2019.

He was a Past President of the Garland County Seniors Golf Assoc., Past President of the HSV Evening Lions Club and a Past Director of the HSV Shrine Club. He was a Board Member of the POA Employee Benefit Fund and a Past Director of the Advisory Board of Regions Bank. A Past Director of the Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, AR.
