Obituary for Hobbs "Hobie" Shaw

Hobbs “Hobie” Shaw, 75, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away September 27, 2018. He was born June 18, 1943, in Joaquin, Texas, to William and Maxie (Brown) Shaw. Hobbs worked in the grocery business most of his professional life, including store management with Albertsons Companies. He was an avid golfer and a fabulous cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Barbara Axford Herring; brothers, Charles Shaw, Robert Shaw; and sister, Mary Henry.

Survivors include daughters, Susan Lowe (Andrew Dixon) of Royal, Kathy Pearce (Kenny) of Hot Springs; brothers, Alton Shaw (Brenda), Bill Shaw both of Texas, Jimmy Shaw (Diane) of Louisiana, Donald Glen Shaw (Nancy) of North Carolina, Eddie Shaw, Kenneth Shaw (Cindy) both of Louisiana; sister, Dorothy White of Louisiana, Trisha Strickland (David) of Texas; grandchildren, Michael Lowe, Amanda Hicks, Kendall Pearce, Kash Pearce; great-grandchildren, Evan Lowe, Cayden Lowe, Deklyn Hicks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary pallbearers include his nephew, Greg Shaw of New Mexico; Jim Belton, Brent Belton, Don Self, and Dave McGill of Mississippi; and Terrell Williams of Arkansas.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Divers and the staff of Genesis Cancer Center, and the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice.

Celebrations of Hobbs' life will take place at a later time at the three places he called "home"...Bay Pointe Country Club in Brandon, MS, Diamondhead Golf Course in Hot Springs, AR, and Querbes Golf Course in Shreveport, LA.

PGA professional golfer Jack Nicklaus, Hobie's hero, said it best, "Resolve never to quit, never to give up, no matter what the situation."
