Obituary for Dr. Tim Hale

Dr. Tim Hale, 68, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away August 30, 2018. He was born September 8, 1949, in Tyler, Texas to Ivery and Sylvia Imogene (Echols) Hale. Tim was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bryan Hale.

Loving survivors include his wife, Missy Hale; daughter, Stephanie Anne Barker (Steve); Sister, Jean Stewart (James); and grandchildren, Rhett Hale Barker and Meredith Grace Barker.

Tim was a passionate giant among men, both physically and in his accomplishments. He was driven and intense in his presence, his goals, and his love for his wife, his family and friends, and animals. Tim’s motto was, “Always Question Authority”, and he did. He was a fierce friend and loyal supporter of the causes and people he loved, as well as a formidable adversary to those he didn’t.

Tim served his country as a Midshipman in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Vancouver. He was also a commissioned officer, a captain, in the Army, and later in the National Guard.

Tim earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and his Doctorate in Pharmacokinetics at UAMS. He worked at the Veteran’s Hospital in Little Rock, and later for the Owen Company in Houston, where he flew all over the nation recruiting others for hospital pharmacies. Tim was a powerful and compelling public speaker. In his later years, he served on the board and worked in addiction rehabilitation for Quapaw House in Hot Springs.

Tim served as a City Councilman in Russellville, and was awarded the keys to several cities, including Lonoke, Russellville, Ft. Smith, Rogers, and Van Buren. He was member of the Free and Accepted Masons, initiated at Masonic Lodge #274 in Russellville, where he also received the Distinguished Service Award. He earned his 32nd Degree of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry at the Little Rock Lodge.

Tim raised more money for the Mid-South Region of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life than any single person had ever done before, and received the Arkansas Community Service Volunteer of the Year Award from KARK, the Office of the Governor, and the Arkansas Division of Volunteerism. He wrote a book called, “Were You There When the Relay Came to Town” about his adventures with the Relay for Life.

Tim was an athlete, playing football for Russellville and later as a Center for Navy at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He walked, ran, and bicycled in more than 100 marathons, usually in the “Clydesdale” Division. He loved animals and owned a 1200 acre ranch he named Nebo Vista outside Dardanelle where he raised cattle, buffalo, donkeys and goats, and put in a petting zoo for his grandson, Rhett.

Tim was baptized in the Church of Christ by his beloved brother-in-law, James Stewart. He enjoyed old time gospel, country and blue grass music, reading and writing poetry, and good ole hamburgers and barbecue, often making weekend runs to Texas to get some “bones, rings and fat” (ribs, sausage, and brisket). Tim loved to travel, visiting every state in the union, and several foreign countries, including Canada, Mexico, and British Columbia, as well as the homes of his ancestors in Ireland and Scotland. He drove motorcycles (owning over 50 in his lifetime) and boats, flew planes, and drove sports cars (and crashed a few of each). He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He accomplished more in his almost 69 years than most people could in several lifetimes.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday September 8, 2018, at the DeSoto Club in Hot Springs Village. The family requests no suits or formal wear be worn. Please dress comfortably and casually.
