Obituary for Alma Lou (Johnson) Maloch

Alma Lou (Johnson) Maloch, 84, passed away December 19, 2018, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born October 24, 1934, in the Rudd’s Crossing Community in Columbia County, Arkansas to the late Leland Jacob Johnson and Blanche (Rudd) Johnson.

Lou was married to Dan Maloch for 21 years. After Dan’s sudden death in 1975, she married Dan’s brother Verdis the following year. They lived in Fort Worth, Texas until Verdis retired and then moved to Hot Springs in 1989. Verdis passed away in 2013.

Lou is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Joy and Mike Wolf of Hot Springs; Susan and Scott Moore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Dana and Jason Landrum of Little Rock; her sister, Nancy (Johnson) McAteer of Waldo, Arkansas; her brother Lynn Johnson and wife Nina of Bauxite, Arkansas. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Kelli Wineman, Mary Rachel Hobbs, Daniel Moore, Meredith Moore, Jonathan Moore, Stephen Moore, Jane Landrum, Henry Landrum, and Charlie Landrum; and her great-grandchildren, William, Anderson, and Catherine Wineman, and many nieces and nephews. Her brother Kenneth Johnson predeceased her.

Lou was a member of First Baptist Church in Hot Springs. She was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother, who through the years provided a loving and stable home for her family. She loved hearing her three daughters practice on the piano for hours a day (or in Dana’s case, minutes). Lou was a wonderful cook who made the best chicken and dressing, pecan pie, and homemade biscuits ever. She was also an expert seamstress, and a wonderful listener taking special interest in the lives of her grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery in Emerson, Arkansas, Friday, December 28 at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org); the Arkansas Children’s Hospital (www.archildrens.org); the American Heart Association (www.heart.org); or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).
