With a heavenly smile on his face, James ‘Ed’ Johnson, 85, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Ed left this world on his 55th wedding anniversary surrounded by his wife and loving family.
Ed served in the US Army in World War II, was owner of Johnson’s Garage and Welding Shop for 47 years and pastor of The Old Country Church for 35 years.
Ed was a loving and gentle man who never met a stranger. Ed had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, sing and play the bass guitar. Ed was a devout Christian and many people will be in Heaven because of his testimony. He also enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Ed was born November 26, 1926 in Hot Springs to the late Joe and Ethel Johnson. Ed was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur Johnson, Austin Johnson and Iva Bates; father and mother in law, Oakes and Hettie Blocker; brothers and sisters in law, Bessie Johnson, Mitchell Herron, Henry Bates, Pauline Johnson and Pat Anderson.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, wife Kelva Blocker Johnson; children, Mark Johnson of Little Rock, Joy (John) Tucker and Julie (Chip) King of Little Rock; grandchildren, Macy Johnson, Andrew Tucker and Hunter James King; siblings, Dorothy Herron, Leo (Laveda) Johnson and Eva (Jim) Harper; sisters in law, Clara Anderson and Silma (Fermon) Bates and Melody Green. Ed loved his many nieces, nephews and all of his friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 12 from 5-7 pm at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home and services Monday, February 13 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Doug Anderson and John Tucker leading the service. Burial will follow in New Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Earn Bates, Kenneth Johnson, Jimmie Harper, Johnny Anderson, Tommy Green and Jon Irons. Honorary pallbearers are the members of The Old Country Church, Dale and Linda Tucker, Tom and Barbara Fisher, Claralene Wigley and Brinda and Linda Bates.
Donations may be made to the Caring Place or the Arkansas Alzheimer’s Association.
