Werner F. Zander, 85, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Fountain Lake Health and Rehabilitation. He was born November 16, 1926, in Doenstedt, Germany, to Karl and Wilhelmine Zander. After immigrating from Germany to the United States, he lived in the Chicago area for more than fifty years before retiring to Hot Springs Village in 2004. Werner was a Life Member of the International Union of Bricklayer and Allied Craft Workers for more than fifty years. He was also a member of Christ of the Hills Methodist Church, the Garden Club and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity; was an avid golfer, an amateur cyclist in France and Germany, and enjoyed fishing, boating and many sports activities. Werner was known for having a green thumb and being self-sufficient; but will be most be remembered for having a huge heart always helping and making room for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Willi, Erich, and Theo Zander. Werner is survived by his wife, Ruth (Schwarze) Zander of Hot Springs Village; two children Doris Brashear (Ken) of Mesa, Arizona, and Marianne Roccosanto (John) of Huntley, Illinois; one granddaughter Katie Brashear of Scottsdale, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews in Germany.
The celebration of life will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, 700 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
