Obituary for Willard Morris Lewis

WILLARD MORRIS LEWIS, age 88, of Hot Springs Village passed away peacefully at his home January 10, 2018. He was born in Longview, TX to the late Prentiss Dudley Lewis, Sr. and Annie Laurie Fisher on December 28, 1929.

Will Lewis has been part of our Village community since 1992. Many of you will remember his involvement with the Church, the Breakfast Lions at Symphony Guild, and his active involvement with the local Audubon chapter. You may have enjoyed some of the golf and fishing tournaments he organized – without even knowing he was behind them.

Those who knew him, knew he enjoyed reading, travelling, playing golf, and watching football. (Go Tigers!)
What you may not have known about him was that he was a veteran of the Korean War; and that he worked his way up from roughneck to Vice President in his 37 years with Chevron, serving more than a decade in Saudi Arabia and Angola, where he was GM of Chevron Overseas.

Family was always first and foremost in Will’s life. He and his adoring wife loved planning exotic family trips, having lots of kids, grandkids (and their friends) come stay, and celebrating every occasion and holiday possible being together. Their lives – and the lives of all who loved them – were full of love, laughter, respect, and sharing of wisdom, and, yes, sorrows.

Will had one brother who predeceased him, and has one sister living in Las Vegas. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Dottie, and their 4 daughters: Dixie (Martin) van der Kamp of Sonoma, CA; Cherie (Glenn) DeHart of Abbeville, LA; Laura McKinney of Ft. Worth; and Julie (Richard) Trent of Forney, TX. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 14 (almost 15) great-grandchildren – all of whom will miss their Poppa greatly.

A memorial service will be held at Christ of the Hills Church on Saturday, 1/13/18 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Will’s family suggests donations to the local chapter of the Kidney Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
