Obituary for Rex Edwin "Ed" Vowell

Rex Edwin (Ed) Vowell died suddenly at his home in Hot Springs Village on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in the arms of his loving wife and best friend, Judi.

Ed was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He lived in different cities in Arkansas while growing up and graduated from Hall High School, Little Rock, in 1968. He served eight years in the Army, was honorably discharged, went to University of Arkansas and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, then served in the Air Force until retiring in 1991. He eventually moved to Pensacola,Florida, where he met his best love, Judi, and married in 1999. In 2009, he moved to Hot Springs Village where he worked for several years as the Sexton at Christ Lutheran Church. He retired to take care of his mother in 2013.

Ed's love and devotion was well known. His son referred to him as the“bed rock" of the family which was so true. His strength during difficult times never ceased to amaze those around him.
He loved cooking, learning, his gadgets and electronics, and all things outdoors. He also loved his fur babies and was the "cookie man" to all the local dogs. His kind heart and gentle nature was appreciated by all those he knew. He was a man of few words but those words could really bring a smile.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Vowell, and father, Rex O. Vowell. He leaves behind his wife, Judi, his son, Robert Vowell (Stephanie), step daughter, Brandi Jernigan (Jason), a beloved granddaughter, Samantha Vowell, and grandsons Jarett Schachel-Smith and Branson Jernigan and sister by marriage, Patrika Cox. He also leaves his mother, Mary Belle Russell Vowell, Michael Vowell (Cindi), and Patrick Vowell (Rosie), and many other family and friends who will miss him.

Per his wishes, no memorial service is planned at this time. The outpouring of love and kind thoughts and prayers by those who knew him best are his memorial. His wife, Judi, asks for prayers for the family in this time of great sorrow. But also remember him with a smile. He would love that.
