Obituary for Mary Beth Balke

Mary Beth Balke, loving and faithful wife of Max L. Balke, went home to her Lord on Friday, November 3, 2017. She was surrounded at the time of her death by her husband and her family. Born July 3, 1946, Beth grew up in Central Missouri where she lived with her mother, Mary Beth Ashley, two brothers, John and Richard Ashley, and sister, Kathy Ashley Gayton. Beth was a devoted Christian from a young age when she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Sedalia, Missouri.

During her high school years, Beth and her family lived in Cole Camp, Missouri, where she attended Benton County R-1 High School. It was during high school that she met her sweetheart and future husband, Max. After graduation, they were married and, before her death, had celebrated 53 years of life and love together.

In addition to her husband Max, Beth is survived by two sons, Christopher (Jamie) and Brandon; grandchildren, Ashley Stauder and her husband Brad, Ryan Balke (Lynn), Holly Balke (Dylan), Garrett Dahl, Ashley and Corey Abbott, along with four great-grandchildren, Rylyn and Delaney Balke, Kaylee Dyer, and Jack Abbott. She was predeceased by her mother and her brother, John.

For the past 34 years, Beth and Max worked together holding franchises and operating Burger King restaurants in Hot Springs, Malvern, Arkadelphia, and Hope. In her leisure time, she enjoyed travel, long walks, solving crossword puzzles and playing along with Wheel of Fortune.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and was active in the United Methodist Women organization, The Mother’s Club, and often volunteered to teach Sunday school classes. A good steward of all God’s blessings, she gave quietly and generously to a number of local charitable organizations.

Knowing Beth’s strength in Christ provides her family a place of solid rock during this difficult time when it sometimes feels we are on drifting sand.

A celebration of Beth’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Moseley and Bro. John McCallum officiating.

The family requests that any gifts in cash or otherwise be made to the following: The Arkansas Food Bank, Potter’s Clay, The Salvation Army, or Samaritan Ministries of Hot Springs.
