Obituary for M. Cordelia Hayes Rains

M. Cordelia Hayes Rains, 90, of Hot Springs, passed from this world to a place of peace April 17, 2017. She was a believer in “God” in every sense of the word and lived her life with all the teachings in mind.

Cordelia was preceded in death by her parents, John Horace and Fannie Elizabeth (Marshall) Hayes; brothers, Charles Oswald, George Daniel, John Horace, Jr., Lester Cleveland Hayes; and sisters, Mary Ellen Mardis and Flora Margaret Martin Boels.

Left to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Mary Elaine Fleming; daughter of the heart, Freda Guenther; grandchildren, Melanie Renee’ Compton, Kris Allan Baker; sister, Frances E. Hayes Johnson; brother-in-law, Norman Paul Harris; sister-in-law, Priscilla Mae Harris Christian; many nieces and nephews; and close friends and neighbors.

Cordelia lived with a sense of adventure, from the movies she sold you at the ticket booths of the theaters here in Hot Springs to traveling the country and seeing and experiencing the desert and pacific coast at a time when they were pristine and safe. Mom was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Perry even though her service declined along with her health.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Crestview Cemetery with Star Fuentes officiating.

Pallbearers include Kris Baker, Hollis Jester, Glynn Guenther, Todd Matchett, and James Main.
