Obituary for Loyd Gene Hutzel Sr.

Loyd Gene Hutzel Sr., 82, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away July 20, 2017. He was born March 19, 1935, in Hot Springs to William Clifford and Delcie Myrtle (Teague) Hutzel. Loyd served on the Fire Department Board and as a firefighter for over 10 years with Morning Star Fire Department. He was a member of Oaklawn Missionary Baptist Church.

Loyd will always be remembered as a Godly man. He was always caring for his family and others before himself. Devotion to his wife of almost 65 years was a true picture of his love for her and then it spread through his three children and has passed down into each new generation.

Loyd’s daily ritual was to read his Bible. He read his One Year Bible through every year for over 30 years. He always attended church regularly until lately when his health would prevent him from doing so. He loved construction; he built many things and if there was ever a good project to be done and figured out, he always was eager to help.

Loyd pursued and wanted a food pantry at our church, and with his persuasiveness and eager attitude we serve folks through it daily now.

Loyd traveled some interesting places like Israel. He would frequently tell about his trip there and how much it meant to him. He was a truck driver, so he did see many sites. Loyd enjoyed some family trips as well, to Hawaii, Branson, and several trips he would make with his son to purchase a fire truck or some other type of work vehicle.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deanna Lynn Hutzel; grandson, Brandon Hutzel; and a brother, William Hutzel.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Hutzel; daughter, Teresa Hunter (Larry); son, Loyd Hutzel Jr. (Peggy); brother, Richard Hutzel (Debbie) all of Hot Springs; sister, Helen Hunter (Sid) of Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Larry Hunter Jr. (Jennifer), Joseph Hunter (Jenny), Clint Hunter (Michelle), Dustin Hutzel (Susan), Nichole Lawrence (Dustin). The legacy continues with nine great-grandchildren and 35 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his little dog, Shadow Deann, who has been his partner right by his side the last five years.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

A celebration of Loyd’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Hill and Bro. Darryl Chandler officiating.

Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery.

Pallbearers include grandsons, Larry Hunter Jr., Joey Hunter, Clint Hunter, Dustin Hutzel, Dustin Lawrence, and Grayson Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Jeffrey Tauth, Dr. John B. Bond, Bro. Joe Cook, and Bro. Harvey Speer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Food Pantry at Oaklawn Baptist Church, where Loyd had a big heart to always be able to help someone and help them to keep from going hungry.
