Obituary for Laura Zel Weston

Laura Zel Weston, 83, of Hot Springs, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 26th, 2018. Laura was born to James H. Watts and Beulah Cockrell Watts on February 16th, 1935 and was raised in Hot Springs. Laura attended Hot Springs High School and proudly graduated at the top of her class in 1953. While working her first job at McBride’s Root Beer Stand in 1949, she met the love of her life, J.L. Weston. They married in 1951 and lived a 66-year love story unlike many will ever experience.

Laura faithfully and patiently waited on her husband for 2 years while he served our country in Germany, and upon his return they were baptized together at Meyer Creek and began their walk of faith together. When the church at Meyer Creek relocated to Hot Springs, Laura played an active and supporting role in the establishment of Mt. Tabor Church in 1957 and served as the bookkeeper for 50 years. She was a valued and respected employee at Arkansas Bank & Trust for 15 years before choosing to begin her second and most cherished career as a homemaker and central support for her family in 1982. Laura was a bright, intelligent, and meticulous woman who took great pride in her duties. She loved and committedly supported her Lord, her husband, and her family with all of her heart for all of her days. The reunion between Laura with her beloved husband and family members gone before her is nothing short of a magnificent and joyous celebration.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband J.L. Weston; her parents, James and Beulah Watts; her sisters, Estelle Trubey, Thelma Wilson, and Zelma Smith; her brothers, Edwin and James Watts; and her granddaughter Asalyn Nicole Plyler. She is survived by her children, Jeffery Weston and Donna Plyler (Mickey); grandchildren, Miranda Plyler (Eric), Mikia Kilcrease (Gaylon), Micah Diggs (Jeremy); great grandchildren Plyler Oseguera, Shelby Kilcrease, Judah Diggs; and her caregivers Amber Abernathy and Michele Halley.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of Laura’s life immediately following at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Paul Thompson and Mark Clark of Mt. Tabor church officiating.

Pallbearers are Mickey Plyler, Plyler Oseguera, Gaylon Kilcrease, Jeremy Diggs, Eric Redman, and Eddie Christian.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Tabor Community Church, 7 Sandez Lane, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the church as well as Kindred Hospice.
