Obituary for Jesse Lee Kinsey

Jesse Lee Kinsey, age 90, met the Lord on March 26, 2018. He was born December 25, 1927, in Meyers, Arkansas, the son of Jesse Jonathan and Martha Kinsey. Born on Old Caddo Gap Road, on Christmas Sunday, at home with no doctor, his mother said he was the best Christmas present ever. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church at Sunshine.

Jesse attended schooling at the one room schoolhouse and then entered the workforce cutting logs at Mt. Pine with a crosscut saw. At 16, he went to Oregon to work on a hops ranch and sent all his money home to his momma. At 18 he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Bremerton, New Jersey, Duluth, and the Hermitage Destroyer. Honorably discharged in 1949, he came home and married Amelda Bailey and had 2 sons Wayne and Roger. Throughout the years, Jesse worked clearing land for Blakely Dam, delivering milk, selling and servicing Singer sewing machines, and ended up at AR Power and Light (Entergy) in 1955 where he worked at Lake Catherine and retired after 36 years.

Jesse’s pastimes included watching the horses at Oaklawn, never missing a race season until 2013. He loved fishing and deer hunting, but later in life enjoyed just sitting on his porch at Meyer Creek watching the deer and the birds. He loved playing with his grandkids and telling them about the “good ole days.”

He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Amelda; and son, Wayne Kinsey.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Kinsey; sister, Helen Helms of Independence Oregon; son, Roger Kinsey of Las Vegas Nevada; stepchildren, Billy Ashcraft (Carrie) of White Hall, Tommy Ashcraft (Dawn) of Hot Springs, Cecilia Ashcraft of Malvern; the grandchildren, his babies, Dewayne, Jessica and Kinsey Ashcraft.

Pallbearers will be Tony Burris, Tommy Casstevens, Brett Lyle, Warren Miles, Billy Watts, & Austin Bartlett.

Honorary Pallbearers include Alex Orsini MD, Jaime Jacobs RN, Amy Reeves MD, Krista Chaddick, Brittany Lacey APRN, Leslie Prather, & Kevin Mosley.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home

A funeral service led by Pastor Bill Harris will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Caruth-Hale Chapel followed by burial at Peak Cemetery.
