Obituary for Fred R. Parker

Fred R. Parker, 71, of Hot Springs, left us January 4, 2017, after a heroic second battle with cancer. He was born in Oxnard, California, and grew up throughout the Pacific Rim courtesy of Uncle Sam and his Navy family.

A devoted husband, father, brother and friend—Fred was an outstanding athlete, a decorated soldier in the Airforce, a loving husband of 50 years, an esteemed educator at both the elementary and college levels, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable talent scout for professional baseball as well as a rabid fan of the game, and a loyal friend to all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Doris L. and Gene S. Parker.

He is grievously mourned by his wife and daughter, Sandra S. and Emily S. Parker, his sister Genelle L. Parker-Hughen, close family members, and a large number of far-flung family and friends.

A celebration of Fred's life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider visiting a beautiful place and spending a few moments remembering why Fred was special to you and offering him a few words of encouragement for this, his next journey.

If you feel so moved, a donation in his honor could be made to our local foundation, “Our Promise—Cancer Resources” (http://ourpromise.info/) or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org/).
