Obituary for Edna Lou (Sword) Frazier

Edna Lou (Sword) Frazier was born March 7, 1916, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Preston and Katie (Kimberling) Sword. She passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, in Montgomery County Nursing Home, Mt. Ida, Arkansas, at the age of 101 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Jefferson Frazier; brothers, John Morgan and Sherman Sword; sisters, Pearl Ann Thornton, Ruby Emma Lavender; son-in-law, Don W. Hampton; grandsons, Donald Clark Hampton, Joel Allen Frazier; two infant great-grandchildren, Heather and Daniel Davis; and her dog, Buster.

Survivors include daughters, Anita Sue Hampton, Judy Edwards (Charles); sons, Tony Frazier (Dorothy), Jimmy Frazier (Carol). She is also survived by her eldest sister, Verna Gaither, age 108 years. Survivors also are 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Edna Lou was an accomplished seamstress, champion Scrabble player, loved crossword puzzles, and was famous for her Sunday dinners. She often contributed to the editorial page of the Sentinel Record and was a lifetime member of New Salem United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of Edna’s life immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wade Overturf officiating.

Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Aaron Edwards, Scott Edwards, John Edwards, John Frazier, Bart Hampton, and Jim Little.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Robertson, Brian Edwards, Tony Diggs, Paul Adcox, Lisa Black, Bill Frazier, Mark Hampton, Alicia Matz, and Grant Boggs.

We want to express our thanks to the staff of Montgomery County Nursing Home, who were instrumental in prolonging our mother’s quality of life for six years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Godwin Cemetery Fund.
