Obituary for Doris Sneed

Doris Sneed, 76, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away December 17, 2017. She was born August 12, 1941, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Hardis Boyd and V. Catherine Bailey Maples. Doris attended Junction City Elementary School, El Dorado Junior High, graduated from El Dorado High School in 1959, and attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana from 1959 to 1960.

Doris worked at Oil Belt Vocational Technical School where she served as Secretary to Accountant from 1967 to 1992. Oil Belt merged with SAU, El Dorado Branch to form South Arkansas Community College where Doris worked in the Accounts Payable department from 1992 until she retired in 2000.

Doris was a member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado until she moved in 2000. After moving to Hot Springs she became a member of First Baptist Church of Hot Springs. She also was a member of Alpha Xi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Women’s Philanthropic Society for 25 years. Doris served as Board Member of Hot Springs Women’s Welcome Club and was President of the club in 2008. She was involved in the Arkansas State Employee Association where she served as director for the El Dorado District and was the finalist for the Outstanding State Employee Award in 1999. Doris was Outstanding State Employee for the Arkansas Association of Two Year Colleges in 1999 and will be remembered for her local philanthropic volunteer work.

Doris enjoyed traveling and has toured all of the 50 United States and over 20 countries around the world. She loved antiques, glassware, and maintaining her friendships – old and new.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Franklin Sneed; daughter, Sondra Ann Sneed Reap (Jeff) of Hot Springs; grandson, Drew Landon Reap (Grace) of Little Rock; brother, Ronald Boyd Maples (Clara) of Cove; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

A celebration of Doris’ life will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John McCallum and Pastor Mike Pounders officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hot Springs Building Fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
