Don R. Cheek, of Hot Springs, went to be with our Lord at 9:25 p.m. on March 7 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was born June 5, 1941, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the late Roy H. Cheek and Mildred I. Cheek.
He was a member of the Hot Springs High School Class of 1959 and a member of Lakeview Assembly of God. Don served as president of the Midweek Men’s Bowling League for 25 years. He retired as Captain from the Hot Springs Fire Department January 12, 1989 after suffering a stroke while fighting a house fire. Don had been with the fire department nearly 18 years. He drove “big” trucks for 33 years; his last 8 years with Mountain Valley. Don was a charter member of the Hot Springs Hog Chapter and former road captain.
Meeting him in heaven are his parents; step-father of 38 years, Woodrow Dean Martin; sister, Joy Alice Cheek France; brother, Douglas Glen Cheek; and sister-in-law, Christy Martin.
Survivors include wife, Paula Cheek; daughters, Alissa Albinson (Mark), Donnette Cheek; step-sons, Charlie Luker (Summer), Larry Burgett, Jr., Adam Burgett, Jody Burgett; brothers, Ronnie Cheek (Vicki), Bill Martin; sisters, Sandra Schildgen (Kenn), Dinah Johnson (Don); grandchildren, Lauren Albinson-Robertson (Mike), Rachel Nanak (Matt), Jessica Bacarella (Chris), Jacob Luker (Jayma), Julia Burgett, Brooklyn Collins, Cody Burgett, Eli Luker, Piper Luker; great-grandchildren, Kolby Burleson, Brennan Bacarella, Nova Luker, Drayden Luker and one on the way; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
A celebration of Don’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Assembly of God with Rev. Wayne Gore officiating. Casual dress is encouraged and the family requests no pictures be taken.
Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. Dinner will be served at The Lakeview Assembly of God Church following the graveside service.
Pallbearers include stepsons, Charlie, Adam, Larry, Jody; special friend, Tuffy Breshears and Mike Robertson.
Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Luker, Roland Adcock, Ken and Lynda Nalls, Dean McCormick, Tony Adams, Dr. John Bond and Julie, Mark Albinson, Matt Nanak, Mark Graves, Jack Smith, Jeff Evans, Tuesday / Thursday Family Lunch Group, Hot Springs Fire Department Breakfast Club, Mid-Week Men’s Bowling League, Arkansas Hospice (Elizabeth, Barbara, Brenda, Angela, Wendy, Carolyn, Melissa, Terry and Chaplain Shane), and Paul Wallace.
