Obituary for Conrad B. Stein

Conrad Byrd “Buddy” Stein, 78, passed away November 30, 2017 in Hot Springs. He was born February 15, 1939, in Little Rock, to Maxwell Kempner and Fay Byrd Stein.

Conrad graduated from Central High School Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957. From 1956 to 1962 he was active in the United States Marine Corps. Conrad had a long career in the insurance industry, starting with Southern Equitable Life Insurance Company and with National Old Line Insurance Company. He later joined National Investors as a home office Life Underwriter. He was appointed an Account Executive for the Reinsurance Division in which he traveled extensively in the Midwest and Southeast area. Conrad was cofounder of the South West Claim Association, helping other companies and organizing other associations. He relocated to Dallas in 1976 and became associated with Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company, one of American General Companies. He became the Assistant Regional Manager responsible for Arkansas, North Texas, and Oklahoma. Conrad moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1991, but, due to poor health, he was forced to retire in 1996. He returned to Hot Springs in 2004 and resided here until his passing.

Conrad was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, was active in their RCIA program, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in the fourth degree.

He will also be remembered for his musical abilities as a song writer, musician, and singer.

Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell Kempner and Fay Byrd Stein; fraternal grandparents, Charles F. and Lillian Pearl Stein; maternal grandparents, Bea and Thelma Byrd; and sister, Carol Stein Pritchard.

He leaves behind sons, Steven Conrad Stein of Little Rock, Michael Conrad Stein of Veneta, Oregon, Richard Joseph Stein of Bend, Oregon; daughter, Cheryl Anne Stein of Eugene, Oregon; mother of his children, Nancy Stein Timreh; grandchildren, Lexsey Elizabeth Stein and Damon Conrad Stein of Oregon; sister, Pamela Stein Trimble (Lindell) of Hot Springs; brother-in-law, Dave Pritchard of Little Rock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Rosary will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with mass of Christian Burial following at 1:00 p.m. with Father Y.C. officiating.

Remains will be placed at Oakland Fraternal Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas at the Stein Family plot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
