Obituary for A.J. Simpson

A.J. Simpson, 93, of Hot Springs, went to be with his Lord on June 21, 2018. He was a faithful and dedicated husband and father. His passions were serving his Lord and his family. He was an ordained minister for over 60 years.

A.J. was a carpenter by trade, pastor, Justice of the Peace, Chaplain for the Hot Springs Police Department, a Mason, and member of the Lion’s Club. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a survivor of the Omaha Beach Landing on D-Day in WWII. He also served in the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Edith Simpson. He is survived by daughters Mildred Lue Washington (Don), Jimmie Sue Smith (Charles), Nancy Copeland (Charles), and Joyce Hendrix (Gene); sister Shirley Butler; sister-in-law Shirley Blair; and brother-in-law Clifford Teague. As a proud grandfather, he adored his 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and soon to be first great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with a celebration of A.J.’s life beginning at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, with Charles Smith and Don Washington officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Smith, Shane Washington, Jeremy Hendrix, Anthony Hendrix, Benjamin Meggs, and great-grandson Tyler Allen.

A special thanks to loving caregiver Martha Davis, Brookfield Assisted Living, CHI staff, Arkansas Hospice, and a host of family and friends.
